Home’s Open exhibition 2020

This Artwork was successfully accepted into Home’s Open exhibition 2020. They received over 2000 entries and only 500 artworks were selected, one of them was mine. This piece is called Sunset Cottonopolis, which fuses hand-drawn floral motifs with photography. I wanted to create a floral design where the photography matches the hand-drawn motifs seamlessly. The overall design is a homage to Manchester’s industrial past and I was also influenced by one of my favourite designers William Morris. I felt the artwork also has a modern take on the 19th century Arts and Crafts movement of that period. I also thought the artwork evokes a sense of nostalgia yet is contemporary at same the time.
